Discovery Monday – Getting in the groove
It’s a beautiful thing when you really start to click with your dog as a team.
I’ve been training my dog for 4 years, 2 .5 of those consistently and through club, and then starting Agility. Over that time I’ve learnt a lot about being a handler, owning a dog, opening my heart, patience and persistence.
Mostly though, I’ve been given the greatest gift of all – unconditional love.
No matter what, Jaxon loves me and works so hard to get the right behaviour – even if his goofy handler sometimes gets it wrong.
Recently we’ve had some amazing training sessions, and it makes my heart jump with joy as I really start to get the groove with him as a team.
That is a journey all of us handlers are on. We won’t feel it every day, we won’t feel it at every trial, but when we get it right, it’s a feeling you can’t believe.
Like flying. For me it’s like swimming with dolphins – ‘cos it’s an endorphin rush. You are connected by your body language and the dog is working with focus by your side.
If you haven’t tried it – you really should!
