Discovery Monday – Jaxon learns to swim!
A little while back, Jaxon & I attended summer Agility Camp with Canine Fun Sports.
It was a fun time, but the middle of Summer really got us, and one day in particular was close to 40 degrees right up to 6pm in the evening!
Well the best thing about Agility Camp is the great group of people who are there – and their fabulous dogs.
One such friend – Chino – was a huge influence on Jaxon that weekend.
You see Chino is about the same size as Jaxon, and she loves to swim. She also loves to fetch her ball from the water.
We went up to the dam for a walk, and I was fully expecting Jaxon to just avoid the water altogether. Instead, as he watched Chino fetch the ball over and over again, he started to get very excited.
He started running around the edge of the water and barking at Chino. I started cheering him on, wanting him to also jump in the water like Chino.
Instead he continued to run, bark, enter the water up to his little toesies, then run out again.
After a while, we all decided to head back to the camp and get ready for our next sessions. Just as we started to leave, I heard a Kuplunk! – Splash! I turned around to see Jaxon swimming across the dam, his legs going as hard as he could.
I erupted in cheers and hoorah’s and hugged him when he got to the other side. I would never have believed it before, but it was obvious to me that Jaxon had watched Chino, and learnt from her. He would never have jumped in the water if it wasn’t for her example over and over of how to swim & how much fun it was.
Thank you Chino for showing Jaxon how easy swimming can be!
Now we just have to get back to the beach very soon to keep that habit up!
