Discovery Mondays – Predictive nature
It sounds like a techie term, but I assure you it’s all about dogs.
A lot of Jaxon & my journey through agility has been about learning to be a team. Whether through running courses, trials, or just out on our day to day walks, I’d say Jaxon is starting to appreciate the fact I’ve been talking more of his language lately.
While there’s a big journey ahead of us, I have loved learning from a range of teachers out there about that language. One mind dogs have developed a whole handling method around it, and Susan Garrett calls it the Predictive nature of the dog.
Essentially it’s all about studying your movement and direction of your own handling to best work with your dog. It’s about giving the dog the best understanding of where they’re going on an agility course.
We are learning a great deal about this, and the best thing is just running up and down the yard practicing movement and position has started to build some good connection between Jaxon and I. And most of all, it’s fun to discover this language together!
